Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratit ude.
~ Denis Waitley
Most people want to find happiness and live a fulfilling life. However, sometimes it can feel like you're chasing happiness without ever truly capturing it. And for some, it just seems hard to leave the depressing thoughts behind and enter a happier and healthier mindset.
Here are a few strategies that may help you find happiness throughout your day!
Don't Worry, Be Happy!
While this is easily said and sometimes not so easily done, the first step to finding happy is to make a conscious decision to be happy. It's about the decisions you consciously choose and your attitudes and behaviors that lead to true happiness. A positive mindset can make a huge difference.
Gratitude
Be thankful and happy for what you have, not what you're missing. When you find yourself thinking negatively, remind yourself of something good in your life. Even when you feel like there is nothing, there's always something.
Forgiveness
Holding a grudge can affect you physically and mentally. Be forgiving, even if they're in the wrong. Just simply "Let It Go". By letting go, you reduce the power that bad events have over you.
Money Can't Buy You Happiness
A lot of stress and unhappiness seemingly comes from financial situations. Just because you're financially struggling doesn't mean you have to quit living life and give into the unhappy thoughts that follow the worry.
Friendship
Friendship is one of the best antidotes. Having close knit friendships with people that care about you can drastically improve your outlook. However, I can sympathize with those who struggle to connect with people because of anxiety and other reasons. Social ties are incredibly important, and it's important to have them during the good times and especially through difficult times.
A friendship tip: get involved in your community. Go somewhere where there might be likeminded people with positive attitudes! Striking up a conversation with someone new may be nerve-wracking, but you'll be glad you did when you finally have a new best-bud.
Meaningful Activities
Find a task that keeps you busy and keeps your mind off of things. No, this does not include binge watching your favorite show on Netflix. In fact, watching TV and just lounging can diminish your happiness levels. Joining an art class where you'll be learning new things and where you can bring what you've learned home can be helpful.
As much as many people hate to hear it, happiness can be a matter of choice.
Sometimes people are lucky enough to possess genes that foster happiness, sometimes people land in situations that make it easier to happy. But everyone has the chance to be at peace, be happy, and love the life that they have instead of desiring more.
And to further your happiness, there of course is Pharrell's song...
